This week, the Dry Tortugas got a lot of new Publicity. So I will set aside my geology of Mammoth Cave article to discuss that instead. thank goodness! I have a great source to talk about this. It should make it easy to write, and easy to link… what time is it… well, I’m a day late.

I do summarize the press release about the Underwater Cemetery discovered in the Dry Tortugas, but hopefully I do more than that as well. By the way, I know it’s a catch title, but I hope you know that the cemetery was above water when they buried people there. The islands of the Dry Tortugas are prone to change. And did I see a journalist or two describe the grave marker as a headstone? Sometimes it’s ok to layoff the right-click synonym shortcut. The graywacke stone was obviously meant to be horizontal on top of the grave. Graywacke is a fancy way of saying gray sandstone, btw.

Do I tell you what those impending things are??? Not outright. But are there hints scattered throughout the article? Yes. Are they good hints? I’m not staking my mystery writing career on it. For the longest time, I called them, and spelled them Spelotherms. and I don’t know why. They aren’t temperature dependent. (for the most part) But a lot of different conditions leads to a lot of different Cave Formations!!! If this is a blog about Mammoth Cave, and the upcoming title The Specters of Mammoth Cave, then why am I including a picture of the last park location for a Junior Rangers Club Book: Treasure off the Coast. I was offered a chance to paint a picture with my words. To wit I responded: My Saliva only comes in 1 color, and clear doesn’t show up on paper. I think choosing to use ink and colored pencil instead was the right choice. (you cant even tell the soggy napkin was supposed to be a triceratops.)

Ok. I know. I’m on a Mammoth Cave Streak. Still, I thought I should share some of my other most Favorite National Parks. This time, I thought it might be nice to talk about some of the lesser known parks in North America.

There are so many options when trying to decide which tour to take inside Mammoth Cave National Park. I continue to discuss, and highlight several of my favorite, and several which will take you on a journey shared by the Junior Rangers Investigative Club in the upcoming book: The Specters of Mammoth Cave!!!

We all know why people come to Mammoth Cave. (It’s the Cave.) No mystery here. So, as I ramp up to announcing the pending launch of the second book in the Junior Rangers Investigative Club series: Specters of Mammoth Cave. I thought I would go ahead an highlight a few of the cave tours that I’ve enjoyed.

Today, I talk about some of the other paths I recommend taking, if you should ever visit Mammoth Cave. And I include many photos, some of which are relevant to the upcoming Junior Rangers Investigative Club Mystery.

This week I wanted to try my hand at horror writing. However, that was taking too long. So, instead, I discuss an interesting question, and answer it through an experiment. (Without answering anything at all.) All to discuss Mammoth Cave, the lesser known Sand Cave, and Pokemon Go. Why? for fun.

No Geology this week. Just a shout out to the first park I had any relationship too.

Back to Geology. Fair warning, there is some chemistry involved and a couple big words like Topography. But mostly this is just a vehicle for my aspiring carrier as a 100% serious educational illustrator.

Time for another hard hitting, surface level, exploration into the Geology of Mammoth Cave. . . Oh wait! Researching this stuff takes time, and it’s a Holiday weekend. Why don’t we do something else instead? How about a Valentines for 3 of my most favorite National Parks? What does that even mean? Well, check out the article to find out! What goes into the making of a cave? Quite literally, what makes Mammoth Cave? Mammoth Bones? No. The remains of other formerly living organisms, and the record of ancient oceans? Yes. Today, I write about the basics of Mammoth Cave. Because sometimes I just want to write about geology. (and then a blog takes way longer to write than expected, and I get tired of the subject!!!) Come for the puns, stay for the drawings. Enjoy at your own risk.
